Seven Year Old becomes Maharashtra's youngest organ donor

A Sydney based Indian couple donated the organs of their seven year old son Deyaan Udani after his death, giving Maharashtra its youngest ever organ donor and thus saving lives of four people.
Deyaan and his family were holidaying in India and were going back to Sydney but on the way back he collapsed just two hours before they were scheduled  to head to the international airport. They rushed him to Nanavati hospital, where multiple clots were found in his brain. He was then shifted to Mahim's P D Hinduja hospital where the surgery was carried out on Jan 27 to release the pressure inside the brain. "He didn't respond to it," said Dr Sucheta Desai, the hospital transplant coordinator. Deyaan was declared as brain dead on Saturday after a second successfull sleep apnea test. "Amid such grief the family were very keen on donating his organs even before we approached them," she added.
Deyaan's mother Mili said she had just fulfilled her son's wish. "Coincidently this year itself, her children had learnt about organ donation in school. Both of them said they want to be a donors when they grew up," Mili added. The family donated Deyaan's heart, kidneys and liver. The kidneys were given to a 11 year old and a 15 year old at Jaslok Hospital. His Liver was transplanted into a 31 year old man at Jupiter Hospital and his heart was given to seven year old girl from Goregaon who had been given a few more weeks to live, till Deyaan Udani heart saved her.

This is a inspiration for everyone about Organ Donation. So friends come forward and donate your organs so it can give life to someone else i.e " Life After Death " .

46 Year Old Fills Potholes To Pay Tribute To His Son

Whenever Dadarao Bhilhore spots a pothole he stops and fills it using his bare hands. He uses  broken pavers black and debris collected from construction sites to fill them up. And then he stomps on it to level the pothole. Once the job is done he searchs for a new pothole which could put motorist especially two wheelers riders in trouble. He dowe so to pay tribute to his 16 year old son, Prakash, who lost his life due to carlessness of civic officials and a private company who dug up Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road for some construction work but didn't cover the potholes.
On July 2015, Prakash, riding pillion with his cousin Ram, was returning after completing admission formalities when their bike hit the pothole which was submerged under water after heavy rains. The bike tipped off and both Prakash and Ram were tossed in air.  Prakash landed on his face was rushed to Hospital. At Holy Spirit Hospital he was pronounced dead in arrival.
"My son would not have wanted this to happen to anyone else. He was a very good boy, smart, intelligent and full of life. I will continue my fight and ensure that the people whose negligence led to his death are punished. But I don't want others to suffer like I did. I want to make our streets safer," said Dadarao. Over the past few months he had filled dozen of potholes and in the process may have saved several limbs and lives.
Bilhore sells vegetables for a living in Marol's Vijaynagar area. Prakash had a lot of promise for the family and he was the first one in his family who studied in an English Medium school. "At home, we hide our tears because we don't want our daughter to get upset. Its like all the happiness has disappeared from our lives. Relatives have stopped coming because they don't know what to say us, who to talk about," said Ram. Last September Prakash friends visited for his birthday." They saw me and started to cry. I sat them down and told them that they are all 'Prakash' to me. I told them they must move on and fulfill their dreams, just like Prakash dreamth of being an engineer. I can console my family, but who will console me," he told tears rolling down his cheeks.
The accident was life changing one for Prakash's cousin Ram, who survived and got some stitches for his head injury. Last year he rescued a man from coming under the wheel of the truck after his bike tripped on broken pacer block.
Bilhore's missionary has transformed others too. Earlier the area residents used to watch him but after inspired by his dedications, they join him readily, handling him pacer blocks to fill up the potholes. Others even provide with sack to collect debris. "We used to watch him do the work single-handedly, now we try to do our own bit as well, said Swapnil Mhatre, a resident of the area.
This is a heart touching story of a dad who lost his son in an accident because of carelessness of some officials. Now its been six month since Prakash died but justice has still not be done . Bhilhore does not want others to suffer due to this, so he carried out mission of filling of potholes with full enthusiasm and even localites of the area helped him in his mission.

68-Year Old beggar donates gold to encourage girls' education

Magpara School had an unexpected visitor on Tuesday  in Khimjibhai Prajapati , a beggar who had come to donate something to the school .
Parents of 10 little girls from poor family thought that would donate books and uniforms. But everyone was left suprised  when this 69-year old beggar donated 10 Jewellery boxes containing 10 gold earrings. He told he did this to encourage girl educations.
"Girls need to be encouraged to study. They must be self-reliant so that they can stand on their feet. The situation in Mehsana is not good. There are very less girls compared to boys and this is the reason why I try to encourage them with such incentives," Prajapati told. Sheetal Sathwara, who runs the Anganwadi Centre said " Leave alone a begger, I have never come across any poor person donating gold for girls in my entire-life."
Deepak shah, a gold jeweller who gave Khimjibhai the gold earrings at discount rate said," These were small earring slightly bigger than nose stud. The total cost came upto Rs 13,000. But after I found that Khimjibhai wanted to present the earring to poor girls, I decided to give him a discount of Rs 3,000."
After spending all his money for the earring, Prajapati was all set for another round of begging. But a lady teacher, who was transferred from government school on Tuesday, gave him Rs 500 as his earnings for that day.
This shows that one need not be rich to do goo to others . Khimjibhai has set an example for us to follow and we salute his initiative.

Driverless Metros being tested in Delhi.

Delhi metro is going through various tests the for past few months at the Mukundpur depot. The speciality of these trains being that they are driverless " The trains procured for phase 3 are driverless trains, which will initially have staff deputed for operations but gradually, they will be withdrawn to move to unattended train operations," said Anuj Dayal, spokesman for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The testing started in December last year when first set of five trains arrived at Mukundpur Depot from South Korea. Another set is expected to reach by February this year. "The trains are under commissioning that is testing, electrical fitting, etc are going on," added Dayal. Many of such trains are also being maunfactured in Bengaluru . Only 20 trains will bes shipped whereas the remaining . 61 trains  are being built in BEML factory in Bengaluru as a part of tie-up between two firms.
"The prototype came on June 4, 2015. Since then manufacturing of 61 trains has been going on in the Indian Factory. "he added. In fact two of the "made-in India" trains have already arrived at Mukundpur depot and they are being tested. Apart from being driverless train these trains are technologically more evolved than existing trains. "These trains will be more colourful and more spacious ," said Dayal. He also said," These train are directly operated by operation control centres of the Delhi Metro system." Because these trains are driverless, DMRC is also installing platforms screen doors at all station in phase 3. Each train can accommodate a maximum of 380 passengers and can accommodate 40 more passengers as driver cabin is no longer required.
A live feed will be available inside the train through 37-inch LCD display. The new train will have four motorised cars and two trailer cars. This will help in improving speed and offer better acceleration and de-acceleration. The speed of train also increases to 35kmph from 32kmph thus saving 12 mins on 56km on the long route said Dayal.
This will be a major leap in technology for India as these will be the first set of 'Made In India' driverless trains !

In 2015, US tops the list with 1,835 thinktanks followed by China and UK with 435 and 288 thinktanks respectively according to the 'Global Go To Think Tank Index Report (GGTTI) 2015 released on Friday.
Among the thinktanks worldwide, US based Brookings Institution emerged on top for the eight consecutive year. Six Indian thinktanks were in global top 175 list:

If the list of thinktanks in US are excluded then four more Indian thinktanks make it to top 175 list (non-US) - Brookings India, Gateway House Indian Council on Global Relations, United Service Institution of India and Vivekananda International Foundation.
A thinktank is an organization that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology and culture. "Flow of information for rich policy analysis and research today are often desperate and fractured, which leads to a vital need for resources that highlights the best policy research out there," said James McGann, director of university of Pennsylvania's TTCSP.  " The Independent index is designed to help users of information and policy analysis identity the leading centres of excellence in public policy research around the world," he added.
There is a great advancement in the no. of thinktanks in India as they increased from 190 to 282 within a year and if this continues then in the consecutive next year we would make it to the top 3.

Filth Free Ganga Along 1,600 Villages within 6 months

Inspired by Prime minister Narendra Modi's  Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Filth Free Shimla, 1600 villages along the Ganga stretch will be made filth free by October, said Union Minister Uma Bharti. The government will implement the package in 1,600 village panchayats along the river banks within the six months and complete the first phase of Ganga cleaning by October this year, she said. The second phase would be attained in four years in which 6,000 villages will be taken up for the programme, the Water Resources Minister said. Uma Bharti was speaking on sidelines of 'Swachh Ganga- Gramin Sahbhagita' a national level consultation programme organized for village heads. This event had large number of people participation with around 1,200 panchayat heads attending the programme.
There are four things would should be taken in consideration:
  • Where will sewage go?
  • How to diverge drains flowing into the rivers?
  • How to convert waste generating from the villages into fertilizers?
  • How to generate employment by cultivating medicinal plants along the river? said Uma Bharti.
The water resources ministry also inked MoUs with HRD, Shipping, Rural Development, Sports, Tourism, Ayush and Youth and Affairs and sports ministries for carrying out various activities under the 'Namami Gange' programme. All institutes will join the mission and old water bodies located along the Ganga and Yamuna will be restored. Government is also planning to start organic farming along Ganga banks to generate jobs for local youth.
Uma Bharti also approached various celebrities and renowned personalities to be the part of the mission. Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Birender Singh, Sarbananda Sonowal, Mahesh Sharma and Sanwar Lal Jat, Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat, eco-activists Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal and Ayurveda exponent Acharya Balkrishna also attended the event.

Shimla to generate power from filth within four months

Shimla will soon be generating power from the 60-70 tonnes of garbage that it generates daily .  To ensure this ,  The Shimla Municipal Corporation will be signing a MoU with a company from Germany this week . The company will then make the arrangements to produce electricity from solid municipal waste within 4 months !
This step has been taken after the National Green Tribunal had expressed concerns about the lack of proper disposal of garbage in Shimla .
This will not only ensure proper disposal but will also protect the ecology from further degradation .
The NGT had said , " Needless to notice that there is a complete failure of functioning of public bodies , including all relevant departments of the state government , and it's an open threat to public health and more seriously to the environment of this area."
The Government has surely learnt a lesson from the report and has thus taken this fantastic decision .
Shimla mayor Sanjay Chauhan said that the plant will problems will be solved with the functioning of the plant at Bharyal which will use 60 tonnes of garbage in generating the electricity .
It will also save the civic body a lot money which it spends in transporting the garbage to Chandigarh as the new plant will be within Shimla . Earlier , the plant used to return 30% inert to the Municipal Corporation for disposal at dumping site. The new plant will return only 5% !
Thus this move definitely has a lot of advantages and should be followed by other cities in the country too . We would also like to appreciate the working of the NGT which has become very active in  when it comes to protecting the environment .

MADE IN INDIA metro shipped to Australia

The Government said that 6 new brand ' Made In India' metro coaches were shipped from the Mumbai Port to Australia on the 29th of January , thus giving a boost to it's 'Make In India' Campaign .
The Ministry of Shipping said in it's statement , "The maiden consignment of 6 metro coaches built in Baroda for export to the Australian Government were shipped from Mumbai ".
A total of 450 coaches have to be shipped over a period of two and a half years .

The coaches were shipped from the Mumbai Port due to it's supremacy in handling over-sized precious cargoes . This is a big achievement for India as it is looking to turn itself into a maufacturing hub for the world just like China did in the past . For this , It has looked into reducing red tape and cancelling out unnecessary laws that have been demotivating the investors from setting up factories in India .
The statement said , " The coaches are 75 feet long and weigh 45 tonnes each , requiring a superior and a highly specialized loading operation with a high degree of precision ".
It also shows how the Mumbai Port is one of the best in India when it comes to shipping precious , large items to other countries . Thus port development will also be an important thing in the future .
The statement added , " The entire of these prestigious over-sized metro coaches has been done in-house by Mumbai Port Trust unlike any other port in India where Private operators carry out such operations. "
Kudos to the government and the Mumbai Port Trust !

Plan to make all government services available online In 5 years

The Central Government wants to make all government services available on mobile phones in the next five years so that the citizens don't have to visit offices , thus making their work done conveniently and efficiently. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) which reports to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) proposed this last week in a report prepared along with Nasscoms and KPMG. " In order to achieve the vision of Digital India and ensure the delivery of government services to citizens, the mobile platform needs to be leveraged to its full potential," said JS Deepak, Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology. "Multilingual mobile governance services are important for service delivery. Aadhar linked mobile based authentication mechanism needs to be developed to become a widely used channel for citizens authentication," Deepak said. Nasscom President R Chandrashekhar pressed for digital technologies to be brought centre-stage in the delivery of services to citizens.
As this scheme would help the citizens to seek their government services through mobile phones and save their precious time, this is a great benefit to not only the citizens but also the administration to carry out their process quickly.

How the PMO helped an aged couple in Kerala in enrolling for Adhaar cards from their home

The government of India is becoming highly accessible. The days when people used to depend on Babus to get their work done is now  history. People now tweet or write mails directly to the PMO for addressing their problem . The response from PMO is also positive and quick which makes the solving of the problem smooth. This has encouraged more and more people  to share their grievances with the higher authority quite comfortably . The story of our Rail minister is known to everyone. How he utilizes the social media to make the experience of travelling for the passengers comfortable and Secure. Another such example is now being set by the Prime Minister's office.
Aadhar card has now become one of the basic thing one must have if he/she is the citizen of India. It is required to take part in various government schemes and helps in  gettings pensions. However there can be a situation in which a person may not be able visit the enrollment centre due to his or her age then this would be a problem .Same problem was faced by the resident of Kerala ,Sivaram when he was not able to enroll his aged parents. He requested the enrollment Centre to get all the procedures done at home .However his request was hardly being considered. After being frustrated by several such requests he finally decided to write to the PMO regarding this problem. And thereafter what incidents took place totally surprised him. He got a call from the enrollment centre . Subsequently an Adhaar team arrived at his residence with a computer , webcam , fingerprinting machine and an eye scanner to record the biometrics of his 90 year old father and 83 year old mother . They assure him that he will get the cards as soon as possible. All this happened within  3 days.  Only a letter t the PMO solved his problem completely . Not only Sivaram but many people like him are being helped by the PMO. Previously the response by the office was not much encouraging but during  Modi regime the response is fast and much encouraging. Grievance solving rate is now more than 80% and the increased number of such grievances shows shows the People's increasing trust in the Indian government and how people are using government facilities to get their problems solved .This defines the  famous quote,  “ By the people for the people of the people”.

Chennai Port To Install Eco-Friendly Devices

In an effort to reduce carbon gas emissions, the Chennai port will go green with a 500kW solar energy project and a wind farm capable of generating 14.5MW power. The Union shipping ministry has decided to take the eco-friendly  initiatives in 13 major ports in the country with an aim to make it pollution free. The Chennai port will use biodiesel which is a biodegradable fuel to reduce pollution. As a part of solar energy power project, work on first phase (100kW) has been initiated by private firm, Alectrona Energy in August at a cost of Rs 92 lakh. For the remaining work (400kW), the estimated cost is Rs 3.7 crore. The solar plant would be installed on Chennai port trust hospital rooftop by the end of this year.
The green initiative is aimed at cutting down the high input costs and conserving the limited natural resources like gas, oil, and coal that account for 80% of fuel requirement. A CLEANER INDIA THROUGH 'SHRAMDAAN'

In a classic example of community initiatives,  people across 140 cities in the country  partcipad in the pan-India organized 'shramdaan' event on Sunday , with the aim of cleaning their surroundings on their own .
The event was initiated by Nagaland girl , Temsutula Imsong on the National girl child day which was on Sunday .
While members of the team Mission Prabhu Ghat carried out extensive cleanliness drives at Bharat Mata Mandir, Rani Lakshmibai's memorial and selected ghats along the Ganga, people from different cities from across India took to social media platforms to share the cleanliness work carried out in their areas on Thursday.
Imsong said," The response has been overwhelming . Though only selected cities participated in the first two events which were held in November and December, this time the participation was encouraging." Imsong had started off with Mission Prabhu Ghat in March 2015, as a part of which,  young volunteers carried out massive cleanliness drives at Prabhu Ghat situated along river . Prime Minister had tweeted about Shramdaan in Noverber terming it as a ' very good effort '. " We had first started this citizen's initiative in November wherein group of individuals from about 10 cities collaborated with us through surroundings. PM's message  was a huge encouragement for us and got us more participation in December", said Imsong.
On Thursday large numbers of youth cleaned the Bharat Mata Mandir. " The entire place was littered with dry leaves, empty bottles, empty wrappers. We have spent about five hours to clean the area," said Darshana and Nanda.  They further cleaned the Rani Lakshmibai memorial in Bhadaini , thus paying a perfrct tribute on National Girl Child Day, said Anurag. A cleanliness drive was also carried out at Assi Ghat and Babua Pandey Ghat in the evening.
#Shramdaan emerged as a trending topic across the cities of India on Twitter.
More of such efforts and the dream of a 'Clean India ' shall become true in the near future ! We appreciate the dedication and the hard work put forward by the people who participated in the event .

Getting/Renewing a passport just became hassle free!

The ministry of external affairs has announced two major changes that will fast-track the process of passport applications and make it easy to secure an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendras (PSK). The passport will be granted on the basis of three documents - copies of Aadhar card, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and Pan Card. According to the old system the whole process would have taken a month , with police verification beating up a lot of time. In this the police verification will be conducted after the passport has been Issued. For this there will be no extra charges taken . Aadhar card will be verified online by an official and then the person  can apply for passport. EPIC and Pan Card would be verified later on if required. The passport can be impounded in case of false information given by the applicant.
The idea of upgrade is to liberalise the process without compromising the security, explained Anil Kumar Sobti, director of passport division in the ministry. He also said " There are plenty of inbuilt safeguard facilities in our system which instantly spot fake identities and forgeries. Most importantly our system is linked to the Aadhar database which helps conduct real break-time verification of the application while he/she is still at PSK."  He also said ," We are trying to integrate EPIC and Pan card as well. Additionally the granting officer interviewing the applicant can use his discretion to extend or withhold the facility. Besides option of impounding the passport post issuance is always available and we can exercise it several times in 2015." Hailing the changes as applicant friendly , Pune regional passport officer Atul Gotsurve said, " A smooth rollout of the facility hinges on accurate and complete documentation furnished by the applicant. Adverse police reports can be avoided if applicants themselves play a pro-active role in their verification to ensure that it is complete within a month since the passport is issued ."
This plan would be a great success if both government officials and applicants coordinate well.

Jan Aushadi Scheme rejuvenated , generic medicines to go cheaper

The Jan Aushadi scheme has been rejuvenated and now it's new form is set to benefit a large number of people .
The government is set to expand the coverage of Jan Aushadi scheme by offering 439 life saving medicines including cancer and cardiovascular drugs as well as 250 medical devices like stents and implants at a discount of 40-60%. 300 Jan Aushadi stores will be opened across the country by March and another 3,000 by 2017. Presently only 45 medicines are available in 125  such stores. " The government is concerned about high prices of medicines for critical diseases, thus this scheme has been started to bring down the prices of essential medicines," a government official said.
By opening Jan Aushadi stores government is trying to procure medicines in bulk , directly from companies at discounted price and pass it to customers. The Jan Aushadi Scheme was originally launched in 2008-09 . Though the scheme was ambitious but was not that successfull. Under new plan government has tried to address all the problems and now it Is ready to hit the ground. They have also started an agency - Bureau Public Pharma Public Sector Undertaking of India (BPPI) to implement the scheme. BPPI has been given the responsibility of floating tenders to invite applications for supply of medicines from companies and also to check the supply related issues. The Centre has now also taken into confidence states , which will lead to better coordination.
In India a large number of patients  die due to diseases as they can't afford the cost of medicines. India as a nation cannot prosper till every single person in this country has the access to affordable medical care . This scheme is definitely a step in the right direction .

Indian private health sector offers the cheapest TB test

A recent study has revealed that out of the 12 high-burden countries where the private sector plays a major role in healthcare , the Indian private sector offers the cheapest price for WHO-approved Xpert MTB/RIF, a molecular test for diagnosing TB  .
India also has the highest number of private labs offering tests , out of which 113 labs offer it at subsidised rates. It costs only Rs 2000 in the 113 labs as part of the initiative - Improving Access to Affordable and Quality TB test (IPAQT) that was launched in India in March 2013. However the charges are between Rs 3500 - Rs 5000 in lab which are not of IPAQT.
The prices of diagnosis in Bangladesh and Afghanistan are way higher at $75 and $50 respectively .
"If the government waives of custom duty of 31% levied on Xpert machine and reagents , the cost of tests will decrease more. Government can waive duties on life saving drugs and products and HIV kits , for example are duty-waived . Now, it necessary to waive off duty on TB test," said Dr Madhukar Pai one of the Governing Council Member of IPAQT.
As a result of subsidized pricing agreement the number of people accessing highly accurate diagnostic test has increased from 15,190 people who availed the test between March and December 2013 to 131,440 in 2015.
" With a lot of effort we have managed to keep the price manageable via IPAQT in India , and have shown that the volumes can greatly increase . In other privatized countries people pay a lot and still have limited access to good tests," Dr Pai added.
Though the price is internationally set to $9.98 per cartridge and the agreement allows 10% variation in exchange rate, the test rate has not been increased since January 2014 despite the rupee value depreciating against the dollar in recent times and if it continues then the price may be revised said Dr Pai.
This comes as a very good news at a time when the TB problem in India seems to be increasing day by day .

CHECK OUT THIS BEAUTIFUL POEM WRITTEN FOR THE REPUBLIC DAY

Wishing all the fellow Indians a very Happy Republic day . On this occasion , Rahul Vishwakarma , an engineering student from V.J.T.I , Mumbai , has prepared a beautiful poem as a tribute to those incredible people who grafted our constitution and the brave men who fought for our independence leading us to this day.
Here's the poem :-

LASER WALLS TO PROTECT 41 VULNERABLE POINTS ON PUNJAB BORDER

As much as 41 points on the Punjab border will be covered by laser walls on priority to prevent the infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan . These points are riverine unfenced stretches that are not covered by the laser walls .
The suspected infiltration point of Ujj River in Bamiyal , used by terrorists in the case of Pathankot attack was not covered by the laser wall . This spot was covered by the wall last week , before the PM's visit .
AS of now only 5-6 out of the 41 Punjab vulnerable points have been covered by the laser walls . The laser beams over the river set off a loud siren in case of breach . If properly installed at all the vulnerable points , the infiltration problem will be solved to quite an extent .
Last year , the Indian Border Guarding Force had started erecting laser walls on unfenced riverine stretches of the international border in Jammu sector .
Following the attack in Pathankot , additional personnel have been deployed along the border in Punjab and boat patrolling has been intensified , particularly during the night .
