On Tuesday, the 20 year old cyclist Deborah Herald created history by qualifying for 2016 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) track cycling world championship . This continues her remarkable rise in world cycling . In December she had become the first Indian Woman cyclist to reach the fourth place in the UCI individual world ranking.
Hailing from Andaman and Nicobar , Deborah who survived the catastrophic tsunami of 2004 , has a feat of exceptional performances over the past one year
In October she had clinched five medals at Taiwan cup track international classic. Then in December she won three medals at 2015 Track Asia Cup held in New Delhi thus helping our Indian team to end at the third position.
VN Singh, Assistant secretary of the Cycling Federation said " This is another feather in her cap. It just goes to show what hard work and dedication can do and we are all proud of her. Only 20 cyclist in World qualified for the event & one of them is Deborah."
Deborah is currently in Japan competing at 36th Asian Cycling Championships, where Singh is confident of further success.
This year's Track Cycling World Championship will be held in London from March 2-6 where world's best riders will contest against one another
