300 New buses for Mumbai!!

Mumbai BEST has invited tender to procure 300 new buses.  The new buses will have charging points for cellphones, digital indicators and cameras. The seats will have new design and a corrosion-resistant body. " With the old buses, we faced the problem of corrosion of metal body. Even the buses rattled when they move as the seats are uncomfortable. We are trying to overcome this problem in New buses," said Patil ,the General Manager .
Santacruz resident Amit Mirchandani said," The existing buses are in bad shape. We welcome new buses And hopefully they will provide a smooth commute." BEST panel member Ravi Raja said that many buses have leaky roof, broken seats and handles." Another member, Shivji Singh, said new buses are the need of the hour. " BEST is going through a bad phase with the number of passengers falling from 45 lakhs to less than 29 lakhs. As Mumbai is an international city, the bus undertaking must have a young fleet to woo more commuters."
The BEST has also proposed to BMC to release additional funds of Rs 25 crore to procure 50 air-conditioned Midi buses.
Buses are also important as they can reduce the increasing burden on local trains . This move can help BEST get its passengers back .
