SIKKIM BECOMES INDIA'S FIRST FULLY ORGANIC STATE

Yes , Sikkim has become India's first fully organic state . But what does that mean ? It means that the crop cultivation in Sikkim is free of any chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers . Organic cultivation is a highly sustainable agricultural practice in the world, the products of this type of farming are of huge  demand due to their realistic flavour and taste. According to the Sikkim mission’s executive director Anbalgan this feat was achieved in the month of December itself; however formal announcement will be made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sikkim. The seeds of this organic mission was laid 12 years ago in 2003 when Sikkim government had chosen to go completely organic.  As a result , the chemical fertilizers were completely banned in the state due to which the farmer's were forced to go the organic way . And now as a result of this initiative Sikkim has got the tag of a  completely organic state having 75000 hectare of agricultural land certified as organic. Not only are the products of organic farming nutritious but it also helps enhancing the ecosystem and lowers the risk of facing various problems like Soil erosion due to leaching of chemicals. It helps in maintaining better ecosystem , better Soil quality & better sustainability . The region  been an ecosensitive  zone , and this step  has proven to be a boon for the state  in maintaining  the ecology  as well  increasing the production. It is predicted  that this will boost the tourism of the Himalayan state.  Implementation of this type of program on a national level will be very fruitful .We hope that government may come up with plans of implementing this in larger states as well.
