E-GOVERNMENT TRANSACTIONS DOUBLED IN 2015


The electronic transactions relating to e-governance projects doubled in 2015 as compared to that in 2014 , owing to the Digital India Programme , Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today .

Prasad said ,"According to government website electronic transaction aggregation and analysis , 3.53 billion transactions took place in 2014 , which almost doubled in 2015 to 6.95 billion... this shows India's drive for technology ."

The Digital India is an initiative taken by the Government of India to ensure that government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving online infrastructure and by increasing internet connectivity .

The minister added ,"Indians have a great taste for technology . They first observe it , then adopt it , and finally enjoy it . Indians by temperament are innovative ."
He said that the digital momentum in the country has begun , facilitated by programmes like Digital India . "12,000 post branches have been linked digitally and soon payment banking would also be a reality for them ", he added.

'Digital Village' , is also something that the government is looking up to . The Diital Village will be powered by LED lighting , solar energy , will have skill development centres and e-services like e-education , etc.
He attributed the resurgence of the electronics manufacturing sector to progressive policies and the 'Make In India' programme .
